There is no universe in which Visio's spacing and snapping rules make sense. [2013]

Straight lines become convoluted arcs, carefully arranged elements are thrown all over the page; chaos reigns.  I have been fighting with Visio for over a dozen hours, and cannot seem to make this program work in a way that makes sense to anyone - and I know I am not alone.  The gluing, snapping, and spacing rules that Microsoft has developed do not make sense.  Another example of MS trying to outsmart the average user, and creating a nearly useless product as a result.

Current Issues:

Cannot move a box nearer to a connector line to intersect another connector; the existing connector 'shies away' from the box

Cannot connect a simple connector to a line; the two points are directly on a grid line, but Visio insists that I want a line with two right angles in it with another small line along the desired connection point

Cannot get many connectors to connect at right angles; Visio insists that I would like a -90.1234... degree angle on the line, even though it is arranged directly on another grid line, with snap to grid on

Connector lines will randomly 'avoid' snapping to grid, resulting in line angles of 89.### or 90.### instead of just 90

---

I am not sure which settings to turn on an off, as I have turned off every automatic arrangement tool I could find in Visio, and still experience elements moving in response to the movement of nearby objects.  I desire the snap & glue elements, but they seem to be a curse.  This is the default behavior for Visio - shouldn't it 'just work'?  Why do we need all this complicated configuring and fiddling to get this program to act in a way that is simple and easy for the average user?  Take it back to the drawing board, MS.
