Own made stencil shapes doesn't work in V2016, fine in V2010

Hi, all!

I use W10 and Visio 2016. I did have a W7 until recently: Same problem

I have made V2010 stencil objects using Corel Designer. All objects are OLE embedded into Visio and works fine in V2010, even on computers that do not have Corel installed. (Customers, other employees here).
Then, a customer reported that when upgrading to V2016, the stencils do not work anymore.

Me still using W7:
I tried to upgrade, the same result occurred: All drawings seem to have a line to the upper left corner og the object. I have tried to "upgrade" the stencils to V2016 (don't remember the word, sorry) to no avail.

Me, new PC, W10:
The first day the objects worked as they should. When I opened them again yesterday, the problem is back.

Edit:* After noticing the shape is corrupt: When deleting it from the page, for a split second the correct shape is shown. Thumbnail pictures are also correct.

Shapes are network equipment, not flowcharts.*



Any ideas will be highly appreciated!

full screen support

Visio is great, no doubts about this. However, I'm surprised (even amazed!) how poorly supported is full screen mode, for both work and presentations. There is a Presentation Mode (Visio 2016) available, but due to the lack of Pan&Zoom support it's pretty much useless I'm afraid :( Also, I wish I could work with block diagrams in Full Screen mode with only relevant Panes (e.g. shapes) when using my laptop, where every inch of display area is absolutely critical. Are there any plans to address these concerns? These day's I'm forced to print out my diagrams into PDFs for full screen presentations, however, missing ability to make amendments while in discussion/presentation.

Search Shapes Returns "No Matches"

I have installed Visio from the Office 365 portal, signed in etc - however I've not been able to get the 'search shapes' feature to work. The 'local' results always return 'no matches'.

The first thing I did was rebuild the search index and ensure the Visio stencil location was listed in the index location ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\Visio Content\1033" in my case).

I searched for 'Cat' in file explorer, and it returned the animals stencil file.

I then tried the same search in Visio and it returned 'no matches'.

I've also tried completely uninstalling Visio and reinstalling it. I've tried downloading new stencils from the 'online' search etc - but have not been able to search 'locally'.

This is very frustrating as I'm having difficulty finding the shapes I want - any ideas?

How to use Portrait and Landscape page orientations on different tabs or pages in same document in Visio 2019?

Seems like I am unable to utilize portrait page/print orientations on one tab and landscape on another in Visio 2019.  I've googled and read several items and unable to find a solution.  Is this something that isn't possible in 2019?  I don't see a way to create sections or page breaks, etc. so this is possible.  No way to uniquely select specific tabs to then apply orientations and settings only to those tabs/pages.

When saving as a autocad .dxf file, there's no measurement units ($INSUNITS) specified?

I save my Visio drawing in .dxf format to be used by dxf2gcode for my CNC machine.  However, I found there's the measurement unit was not specified, e.g., $INSUNITS, in the saved .dxf file by Visio.  Is this true and acceptable behavior?

Reinstall Visio 2013.

I purchased Visio 2013 in 2015 and installed it on my laptop. The laptop drive failed and I am trying to reinstall all my apps. I downloaded the Visio when I originally purchased it so I don't have a disk.  I have a valid key but how can I download the software?

Reference to a "user-defined-cells" in a container is lost after copy/paste

I am using smart container+shapes shapesheet features in Visio 2016 , with data linked to the container, and the shapes within the container referring to the linked data to influence the shape/text rendering and layer membership.

I am using "user-defined-cells"  to dynamically setup the layer membership based on the linked data. It all work nicely on the first container+shapes created : The layer membership refers to a user-defined-cells "User.Layers"

I have an issue when I copy/paste the initial container+shapes: After the copy/paste, in the new container+shape , the reference to the "user-defined-cells" is lost and instead it shows the value of  the initial (copy) "user-defined-cells" : The layer membership does not show the  user-defined-cells User.Layers, but the value it had when copied

Any idea why the reference is lost (not copied) and instead the value is being copied

Two-way gradient puzzle

I want to find out if there's a way to do something with gradients in Visio. I tried it today and couldn't get it to work.

Imagine a 5x5 checkerboard pattern. Number the columns 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and number the rows A, B, C, D, E. We can identify any square by its row and column, e.g. the upper left corner square is A1, the one to its right is A2, and the one below it is B1.

Now imagine that the upper left square (A1) is medium blue, the upper center square (A3) in light blue, and the upper right square (A5) is white. Also, the bottom right square (E5) is medium yellow, and the middle right square (E3) is light yellow.

The color of square C3 (center middle) is the sum of A3 (above it) and C5 (right of it): light green. C1, E1, and E3 are colored similarly, so E1 is medium green, and C1 and E3 are light green, shaded respectively toward blue and yellow.

B1 has a vertical gradient from the blue of A1 above it to the bluish yellow of C1 below it. B3, B5, D1, D3, and D5 have similar vertical gradients from the color above to the color below.

A2 has a horizontal gradient from the blue of A1 on its left to the lighter blue of A3 on its right. A4, C2, C4, E2, and E4 have similar horizontal gradients from the color on the left to the color on the right.

That leaves squares B2, B4, D2, and D4. And that is where I got stuck. Each of these squares has a diagonal gradient that matches all four neighboring squares on the respective sides.

It seems to me I should be able to do this with a diagonal gradient from the color of the adjacent corner square to the color of the center middle square, but I couldn't get that to work. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Error when loading Visio Add In - Unable to load the XXXX Add-In. Index was outside the bounds of the Array

Hi,

I have generated MS Visio Add-In and installed it.  When loading the Visio 2016, I'm getting error 'Unable to load the XXXX Add-In.  Index was outside the bounds of the Array', and the Add-In is not loaded in the Visio.  Can you help me to resolve this?  Let me know if you need any further information.

I have installed Visio 2016 MSO (64-bit, version 16.0.4738.1000) and Visual Studio 2010 (64-bit, version 10.0.40219.1 SP1Rel) on a Windows 7 Professional (64-bit, version 6.1.7601)

Not able to draw a small double arrow in Visio 2016

I am using Visio 2016. I am facing this issue that I am not getting the double arrow as the arrow is small, only 1 sided arrow is visible even after setting the begin and end arrow type.

 

I hope my query is clear of not being able to see double arrow and only 1 sided arrow is visible.

Is it possible to get lanes to glue to each other. Without being part of a listbox.

Visio 2016 - modify shape white space/margins

Hi all,

Using Visio 2016 Pro, the switch shape under Network and Peripherals is square. The shape itself is rectangular. this cause lots of white space above and below of the shape. is there is way to trim this?

Visio Container Heading Text Box Resize

Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I have scoured the internet and cannot find a single thread relating to this.  Maybe my google-fu stinks, but I'm banging my head against a wall trying to figure this out.  Its so simple yet once again Microsoft has made things needlessly complicated, just like Word and Excel.  I shouldn't need training and certifications to be able to know how to do things that should just work...  /rant

Anyways, I just want to be able to resize the Header text box for a container.  I'm using Visio 2013 and I'm using the Container Style called "Notch".  I figured out how to use the Paragraph controls to rotate the heading text so that it displays vertically, but I have to put the heading at 12pt font or less if I don't set it to Bold, or 10pt or less if I do set it to bold just to keep the word "Applications" from wrapping inside of the insanely tiny little text box they give you.  The container itself is sized pretty large (it contains 30 square shapes inside of it), so 12pt un-bolded text looks really darn small.  

I can select the heading text box, but the only option is to move it.  There are no options to resize it.  That is insanity!!  You should be able to resize a stupid text box.  What a painfully simple thing I'm trying to do yet it seems to be impossible.  I know I can just create a vertical text box on my own and probably link it or something to the container (I'm a Visio newb so I don't know if that's possible) but I don't really know how to do that and I feel like I shouldn't have to do that.  

So either I'm missing something really obvious or Microsoft has once again made something needlessly complicated like all of their Office applications seem to be...

PDF export dropping hyperlinks

Hello,

I have a custom scaled PDF drawing with a background and hyperlinks on square shapes.  In Visio the hyperlinks work properly.  When I export to PDF the hyperlinks are not available on the PDF.  Is there a solution to this problem?

Unable To Connect To SQL Server 2017 Using Viso 365

Greetings:

I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2017 remotely.

I'm using Microsoft Visio for Office 365 MSO (16.0.11328.20220) 32 bit.

I downloaded and installed the ODBC Driver 17 for SQL server.

Within Visio:
  1. I created a new Database Model Diagram from the Software and Database template
  2. I clicked on Database -> Reverse Engineer.
  3. Under Setup, ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server is the only driver selected
  4. I double click on my data source.
  5. I enter the password for the data source.
  6. The following error comes up - "The currently selected Visio driver is not compatible with the data source"

Any assistance one might give is most appreciated.

I am looking for advice on the Visio and Excel interface, specifically linking existing data sources so that information is automatically updated on both sources when changes are entered. Do I need Visio Pro in order to do this or can I use the standard Visio program?

Visio 2016 constantly crashing

Lenovo ThinkPad T470s
OS: Windows 10 Enterprise x64
OS Version: 10.0 (16299)
Image version: 6.1709.0.ppkg

Visio Freezes and stops responding even when just starting a new blank doc.  The ribbon freezes and everything starts spinning circle on the Ribbon.  It starts to use 100% of CPU Usage.  Have to end task to get out of it.  If I relaunch in safe mode it recovers document client was working on.  Save file close and reopen Visio it will work for a couple minutes then the it freezes and most of the icons in the ribbon starts the spinning donuts and have to end task.  This happens even if you just go into new blank document click on the ribbon freezes and same thing icons on the ribbon start spinning circles and can't do anything.

Started with Repair
Increased Virtual Memory
Disabled/Enabled graphics acceleration
Safe Mode no add-ins enabled
New local Profile
Tried setting Microsoft XPS as default printer
Tried both versions of Visio
Microsoft_Office365VisioPro_16.0 (32bit)
Microsoft_Office365VisioProX64_16.0

Tried Visio in Safe mode works for a couple minutes then it starts freezing and doing the spinning circle on the ribbon.
Ran dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

I've researched online seems this is a known issue.  But haven't found a resolution.
