Unable to create a PivotDiagram - Visio could not perform the selected action [...] PivotDiagram is not valid

Hello,

I am trying to create a PivotDiagram to visualize data about my organization. The dataset is in an Excel worksheet. I have tried two solutions to import the data into Visio :

  • use the "Export Table to Visio PivotDiagram" in Excel Table tools
  • create a new PivotDiagram in Visio then import the data with the Wizard

None of these methods work, as I get the following error message : "Visio could not perform the selected action because the current PivotDiagram is not valid".

I have an almost blank page, with one empty blue shape, and I cannot do anything useful with it. I can add categories, but the shapes are empty; the error message pops up again when I add sums, etc.

Thinking that my database could be the problem, I have tried with the sample dataset displayed on the Office Support PivotDiagram tutorial, but the issue remains. Same if I import from an Access database.

Excel 2013
Windows 8.1 Enterprise

My Visio 2013 > Shape Stencil > palette truncates the Shape Names; frustrating

The Shape Stencil palette truncates the names of the shape selections to 3 or 4 leading characters followed by an ellipses …

Example
<account needs to be verified before images are accepted>You can toggle between the various presentations afforded by palette’s context menu; Names Only, Names under Icons,Names and Details, etc, and findNames and Details to be the presentation that renders most of the names, however, none of them render a complete name. What makes this more frustrating is that I have been on Visio 2013 workstations where this is not a problem, however, it is on this machine!!!

All help is appreciated.

Visio Connector Problems

Good Morning Everyone,

I'm trying to create an org chart with the pictures of my team in the shapes. I know I can't insert the pictures into the shape and I can't group the pictures to the shape. What I'm finding is that sometimes when I put the picture on top of the shape the connectors move. I grouped all of the lines together, created separate layers for shapes, connectors and pictures and I've locked, unsnapped and unglued the layers for the connectors and shapes. Yet the connectors are still moving all over the place as soon as I try to position some of the pictures. Some of the pictures went in fine, resized fine and are right where I want them. But half of them can't be resized or moved into the right position without the connectors freaking out.

Do you have any ideas on what to do?

Visio 2013 how to launch only one instance of VISIO.exe

Default install of Visio 2013 launches multiple instances of VISIO.EXE.

With Office 2013 this impacts on performance and memory. Most users are unaware and can launch multiple instances of Visio running the Task Manager.

Steps:

From the desktop if I select two visio files, right mouse click the result is two instances of Visio.exe launch. 

I would like both files to launch in one instance of Visio.EXE

I found the following registry key

I set the registry key to 1

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Visio\Application\SingleInstanceFileOpen

1 = yes

0 = no

Refreshed the registry

The results: launches the two visio files in two instances of Visio.exe

With Visio 2007, I remember we had the same issue with opening multiple instances of visio. This was resolved by the following

I set the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Visio\Application\SingleInstanceFileOpen

1 = yes

0 = no

However this doesn’t resolve the issue.

I applied the following and rebooted the pc

1. InstalledhotFix-Visio KB2597953

2. Installed Service Pack 3 for Visio - KB2526291

3. note: above registry key doesn’t exist on pc

The results:

From the windows desktop double click to open the second visio file launches in the open visio (the 1st session of Visio) – correct behaviour.

Visio calculate paths

Hi,

I'm new to Visio and wondering if visio can calculate all the possible paths within the map I have created.  My map has 76 boxes which lead to different scenarios from box 1 to box 76. Doing that manually would be insane as I estimate something like over 100 possible  scenarios.

Viso 2016 Freezing and Crashing

Hello,

I have about 10 of my staff members using 2016 Visio Professional.  All of them are stating that it runs very slow, freezes and crashes at times. 

I read that disabling the graphics acceleration under the advanced display settings would help, but it did not.

We have up to date solid computers.  Any thoughts on how to repair this issue?

I work with Visio 2016 on a windows 10 laptop and my search function doesn't work, i have allready tried multiple solutions from internet of forums with the same problem in other version but it still does not work. does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

Visio Pro 2016 64-bit or 32-bit?

My department had purchased a 10 volume license of Visio Professional 2016, from our IT group. Downloaded as an ISO file, I was told that it can install both 64-bit or 32-bit versions. However, when we try to install it in our office pro 2010 or 2013 environments it keeps displaying the same message :

We can't install the 64-bit of Office because we found the following 32-bit programs on your PC:

Microsoft Office Profession Plus 2013 (2010 or 2013)

Please uninstall all 32-bit Office programs, then retry installing Office. If you want to install 32-bit Office instead, please run the 32-bit setup.

When I try to run the office32mui.msi file I get the Error 1713 message. 

Some of our health care apps are not compatible with 64-bit versions of office. How can I the visio set file to install the 32-bit version?

Difference of windows 7 OSK on screen keyboard and virtual keyboard found on the internet

When i tried to use the windows onscreen keyboard, the PCSX or the ps2 emulator reacts as if keyboard was pressed. but when i used almost all project virtual keyboard found on the internet and click the button "Send X" it did not send X to the PCSX.

how come that the windows7 OSK is functional to any application like that PCSX?
but this project OSK on the web is not functioning like that windows OSK?

I wanna know the difference of that windows7 OSK.
please help

Visio 2013 crashing

Hello,

I've installed Visio 2013 32bit on a Windows 8.1 PC, but sadly it crashes everytime at start or a few seconds after. There are no add-ins and the crashes happen even when Visio is in safe mode. I tried to disable "hardware graphics acceleration" too, but the crashes keep going. Otherwise, my PC is very stable, has latest drivers and shows no problem. Export a Visio file to use as a interactive document director?

Hey,

I just finished creating a Visio file which is a word document selection model/form (click on links on page to bring up word documents).

I have hyperlinked all the buttons but my major issue is deciding which format to export this to so my department team members can access:

-PDF works however gives user 3 security questions before loading the linked document.

-Webpage works but requires HTML support files to be saved wherever the user saves the HTML parent file.  

A flash document would be ideal but dont even know if this is supported anymore, it has been years since I used flash to be honest.

Does anyone know of an export option I can try?

Hello! 

Love the product, use it quite often, never thought it'd be smth couldn't done in it. Until today.

I'd like to have two shapes partly overlap. 

Currently, there is a Picture #1 group of two shapes.

Creating a mock up Database page

Hi

I wish to create a mock up Database page that will ultimately become a real page on a SharePoint site with an Access/SQL back end. I was hoping that I could create such a page in Visio. 

I need to be able to place non functional Combo Boxes, Text Boxes, labels, hyperlinks, all the usual stuff you would find on a Access type form.

Can anyone assist me on where I can find the templates/objects, whatever they are called???????????
